Sony Reveals Official 'Spider-Man' Title, New Picture

The Amazing Spider-ManSony’s Columbia Pictures announced today the official title for Marc Webb’s web-slinger reboot:The Amazing Spider-Man.

The additional adjective, a nod to the original comics, comes over a year after Sonyscrapped the fourth installmentof Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movie series with Tobey Maguire lined up to take on John Malkovich’s Vulture. It’s also a little over two months since Webb began shooting the $80 million reboot with 3D RED cameras for its July 3, 2012 re-launch.

The studio also released the second official image of Andrew Garfield as the titular hero, complete with mask, mechanical web shooters, and a recognizable pose (see below).

The Amazing Spider-Manreturns to the roots of the hero— co-created by Stan Lee in 1963 and now on issue #654— and the high school origins of his alter-ego, Peter Parker. Specific details on the plot are under wraps, but Parker will be juggling the introduction of his new super powers, a budding relationship with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and battling the forces of The Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Nels Van Adder (Irrfan Khan).

The rest of the cast includes Sally Field and Martin Sheen (Aunt May and Uncle Ben), Denis Leary (George Stacy), Chris Zylka (Flash Thompson), and C. Thomas Howell (Ray Cooper).
